September & October Round Up (Events, Makes & DIY)

Our baby turns 25!

As a family we are slowly getting used to socialising again. So to meet outside our homes was a perfect opportunity was to celebrate our youngest son's 25 birthday. It's always been a tradition that I make a cake but coming up with ideas on how to decorate them gets harder as they get older. Joe being a bit of a techie really liked my take on his new age.

I also made a skirt to wear to his party and posted a sew along video and downloadable instructions. Check out my YouTube channel for the sew along and previous blog posts for the step by step instructions.

28 years of Marriage

Now that the kids have moved into their own homes John and I spend a lot of time together at home so to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and to get a changed of scenery we checked into a Spa Hotel in Chester to be pampered, wined and dined and enjoy the local area.

I even got chance to pop into my favourite fabric store Abakhan Fabrics to top up my stash for up and coming projects. Love is an understanding husband!

Back Decorating Again!

I vowed not to do any more decorating after finishing my Mum's bungalow but the tenant in our rental property had different ideas and gave notice to vacate. Reluctantly John talked me into giving the place a complete overhaul - he tells me we do such a good job and we'd be hard pressed to find a workforce that are as thorough and tenacious as ourselves and all for no charge!

The apartment is nearing completion and I can't wait to show you the after shots but here is what it looked liked before we started.

Mum's Birthday and meeting my first Grandnephew

My mum celebrated her milestone 80th during lockdown so to make up for it I planned a party lunch at my Aunt's house who struggles to get out and about with my cousin who also shares the same birthday as Mum. My sister surprised Mum with a visit from London bringing her daughter, partner and my Mum’s first Great Grandson.

Lots of Jobs in our New Home

We still continue to transform our new build into a home. There’s lots of bare walls to cover but with all the decorating we’ve done over the last year, we decided to just ‘live’ the house before reaching for the decorating kit.

For the moment we have found some lovely art for the landing and kitchen dining area from our local TK Maxx store which really brighten the bare walls up.

To compliment the huge dining table I found on Facebook marketplace we’re looking for dining chairs. We’re still using the ones from the old house which are looking a bit tired but John has customised a couple of chairs and transformed them into benches which I’m going to upholster and we will use around the table for large gatherings then place one in the hall and one on the landing when we don’t need them.

I hope to do a video on the making of the benches very soon.

I’m also looking for curtains for our living room. It’s funny because after 36 years of knowing my husband this is the first time we’ve really had to agree how our new build interior looks. In our previous home the style was very much guided by the period home we lived in and stuff was purchased over the course of many years. Now we are making multiple decisions on how it should look on a daily basis.

I realise my husband is a lot bolder than me but we get by compromising and standing for what we want in equal amounts!

I hope you found this update on my world interesting. November is shaping up to be a busy month too and I’m already thinking about my first Christmas in our new home.

Keep checking in for more blogs.

Until next time……

Jen
